SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

The Trust was established by the Executive Committee of the Dharmasoka College Past Pupils Association Colombo branch on 27th November 1993, under the duly executed Deed of Trust.

The primary objectives of the Trust are as follows.

(i) Promotion of the advancement of education and knowledge.

(ii) Provision of Scholarships to enable deserving students of Dharmasoka College to study in Universities in Sri Lanka.

In 1996, the Trust commenced a scheme to award scholarships to deserving students of Dharmasoka College who gained admission to Sri Lankan Universities based on the results of the G.C.E. (Advance Level) examination held in the previous year. 

HOW YOU COULD CONTRIBUTE FOR THIS WORTHY CAUSE

OPTION 1 – THREE YEAR CONTRIBUTION

 You can pay the donation upfront for the total amount of Rs. 60,000/= for a 3-year Scholarship. 

OPTION 2 – CONTRIBUTE TO A SPECIAL FUND

 The higher amounts in a Special Fund will be invested in fixed deposits maintained at government banks and the interest income derived annually will be utilized to make Scholarship Awards in the following manner. 

Amount of the Special Fund Frequency of a Scholarship Award

Rs. 250,000            Once in every three years

Rs. 375,000            Once in every two years

                Rs. 575,000                                 Three in every four years            

Rs. 750,000                             Every year

SELECTION PROCESS

A student who has gained admission from the College to a Sri Lankan University is eligible to apply for a scholarship, should be able to substantiate that the monthly income of the student’s family is at or below a level determined by the Trustees.

The Principal of the College provides to the Trust a list of the students who have qualified for admission to universities based on the results of the G. C. E. (Advance Level) examination held in the previous year.

Application Forms are sent by the Trust, to all the students on the College list. Duly completed Applications received by the Trust are evaluated on points given below:

(i)   Level of the family income,

(ii)  Number of years studied at the College,

(iii) Course of study at the University, and

(iv) Distance to the residence of the student from the College.

The Applicants are short listed according to the number of points obtained on evaluation. The value and the number of scholarships is determined by the Trustees according to the availability of funds. The current total value of a scholarship for 2023 based on 2022 GCE (AL) results is Rs. 60,000/= payable over three years.

The Trust has given scholarship awards annually since 1996 to the students from deserving needy families. During the period 1996 to 2022, the Trust has given over 500 such scholarship awards.  

The Trust is depending on funds received as donations from Past Pupils and well-wishers. Remittance Advice should be filled and sent according to the selected option (Option1 or 2) to the Trust Treasurer, Mr. K.
